Frank De Clerck

Frank De Clerck creates corten-steel sculptures and wall objects in which line, light and shadow interact.

Art form

Corten-steel sculpture and light objects.

Born in Ghent on 27 August 1954.

Frank De Clerck creates sculptures and wall objects in corten steel. With simple, powerful lines he brings recognisable forms to life. His minimalist line drawings combine strength, simplicity and refinement.

When the light is switched on, the work changes. Light and shadow emphasise the lines and give the sculpture a warm, atmospheric presence.

The result is a distinctive interplay of art, design and lighting: an artwork that shows its form during the day and comes alive in the evening.

A particular part of the collection grows out of the collaboration between Frank De Clerck and Wilfrieda Van de Velde.

Some light sculptures begin with one of Wilfrieda's matter paintings. Frank adds a corten-steel line drawing over the structure and colours of the painting, together with subtle integrated lighting.

Painting, sculpture and light become one whole.

A distinctive meeting of matter, line and light.
