Watercolour, pastel and mixed media
Ghent, Belgium

Ingrid Lefevre creates portraits and figures in watercolour, pastel and mixed media, combining realism with layered personal compositions.

I am Ingrid, born and raised in Ghent. I began making portraits at a very young age. My first media were pencil, charcoal and pastel. I later studied monumental art at St. Lucas art school in Ghent. For many years I have also drawn portraits from live models.

From 2010 onwards I became fascinated by watercolour, a demanding technique that requires considerable knowledge and practice and that developed into a true passion. In 2022 I spent a full year working on a complete project, Het Heiveld in Aquarelle, in collaboration with residential care centre Het Heiveld and its residents. I painted and interviewed 25 residents, resulting in a solo exhibition at Het Heiveld.

In 2023 I felt the need for a new challenge and took the next step through unique AquaMix compositions. Watercolour remains the main basis, supplemented with acrylic, pastel, paper, fabric and dried flowers. This resulted in ethnic portraits, retro portraits and other creations.

My works are realistic, partly detailed and partly loose. Tone and value, light and dark, and a specific colour palette are determining elements in my personal compositions.

Alongside portraiture, favourite subjects include figures, animals, flowers, ladybirds, dance, circus, music and Cuban classic cars. Every creation tells its own story. I also work on commission, in consultation with the client and according to their wishes.

My work has been shown in collective exhibitions and galleries in Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Sardinia, Canada, the USA, Mexico, Portugal, Bulgaria, Thailand, Indonesia, Romania, Kosovo, Sarajevo, Georgia, Ukraine, Poland, Japan and Spain. I have also had solo and duo exhibitions in Belgium and received several distinctions.
