About Ronny Roels

I am Ronny Roels, born in Wetteren in 1957. Like many children, I was fascinated by drawing and painting. At the age of fourteen I discovered oil paint, marking the beginning of my artistic journey. My studies at the Art Academy of Wetteren from 1979 to 1984, with a focus on drawing and painting from the live model, strengthened my fascination with the human body.

The human figure, in all its vulnerability and strength, is central to my work. I see the nude body as a tribute to our humanity and try to portray each model in their unique beauty, regardless of body shape or physical characteristics. My style developed from figurative work towards hyperrealism, integrating symbolism and emotion to tell stories about freedom, justice and inner strength.

My studio is in Wetteren, where I live my passion for art every day. My disciplines include oil painting and portrait drawing of both people and pets.

I received recognition from the municipality of Wetteren when I was commissioned to paint former mayor Alain Pardaen. The portrait now hangs in the former town hall.
