Watercolour and oil painting
Wetteren, Belgium
Marie-Rose Smetryns combines watercolour techniques with oil painting on linen.
For many years I concentrated on watercolour painting. The flow of transparent colours and working wet into wet continued to fascinate me, while at the same time I wanted to paint on canvas.
In recent years I have been "painting watercolour" on linen. I use oil paint that can be thinned with water. Using both turpentine and water as solvents also produces surprising results.
I now usually combine my watercolour technique with traditional oil painting, using the paint undiluted and applying it with a palette knife.
