Laarne, Belgium

Wilfrieda Van De Velde is a visual artist, creative coach and goldsmith working across jewellery, matter painting and bronze.

Wilfrieda Van De Velde, born in Laarne in 1960, is a visual artist, creative coach and highly intuitive maker. She has studios in Laarne and Veurne. For many years she worked as a kindergarten teacher before making a career change several years ago.

As a qualified goldsmith with additional training in a wide range of jewellery techniques, she now designs her own jewellery collection. Most pieces are unique small artworks that offer a creative alternative to mass production.

She often works thematically and combines jewellery design with matter paintings in semi-figurative and abstract styles. She has also taken her first steps into bronze sculpture. Across these disciplines, she continually tries to translate feelings into artworks.

She also gives jewellery-making workshops for adults and lectures for a broad audience on the language of jewellery.

In 2016 she founded the creative studio De Bonte Bende. There she gives engaging and challenging group workshops to young children, sometimes together with a parent, grandparent or other family member. The aim is to introduce children to the rich and varied world of art. With pencils, brushes, paint, clay and many other materials, a magical world is brought to life.

She is currently working on her first children's book, an adventurous story about a speckled hen from De Bonte Bende.

Since early 2018, Wilfrieda has had her own art gallery on the seafront in De Haan.

Wilfrieda is a co-founder of Lak@rt.
