Miranda Van den Broeck creates realistic and surreal paintings around nature, music, people and emotion, often with symbolic or spiritual elements.
Miranda, or Mi, was born in Hamme in 1969 and followed love to Kalken.
Because of the pace of everyday life, I often felt the need to find ways to slow down, relax and regain a sense of calm.
That search led me around thirteen years ago to the Art Academy of Hamme, where I began with charcoal drawing. It felt a little like coming home. Unfortunately, I was soon pulled back into the rush of work and daily obligations, and my hobby had to make way for other priorities.
Fortunately, wisdom comes with age, and I picked up the thread again in 2019. Partly from a need to slow down and shift priorities so that I could make time for myself, and partly because I wanted to listen to the inner voice that kept asking me to experiment with oil paint, I enrolled at the Art Academy of Waasmunster. I am still learning, growing and discovering there.
The time to myself, the concentration, looking and observing, the smell of oil paint and the feeling of brushstrokes moving across the canvas bring me an enormous sense of inner calm and fulfilment, and make me lose all sense of time.
How can my work best be described? Realistic and surreal images around favourite themes such as nature, music, people and emotions, preferably with a touch of spirituality or symbolism. Refinement and detail are characteristic elements.
