Metal sculpture, assemblage and mixed media
Ghent, Belgium
Bert Vangerven creates metal sculpture, assemblage and mixed-media work using plaster, glass, metal, wood and found materials.
I have been involved with art for a long time. I enjoy assemblage and mixed media, which I use in both sculpture and painting. My favourite materials are plaster, glass, metal and wood. I combine them with all kinds of found and discarded materials. Whatever I encounter along the way may end up in my studio, where sooner or later it is given a second life.
I am always looking for new materials and techniques through which to express myself. Art is my world and a major part of my life.
It has become my second language. I work my feelings, emotions, desires, dreams and experiences into my paintings and sculptures. I hope the works create some response in people and touch them in one way or another.
